A large majority of the fantastic work that we do is down to us working in partnership with other great organisations for the greater good of the children and young people. There is no better example of this then the work we did with both Suez and Southampton City Council at our YMCA Newtown Youth Community Centre.
A big element of the centre is its astroturf pitch facilities allowing local young people and groups to access and use the pitch for a variety of skills, development and fun opportunities on a daily basis.
After many years of service the old pitch had become worn down and was in need of replacement. With the support of SUEZ and Southampton we were able to raise enough funds to replace the pitch just in time for the Community Center’s 2nd Birthday as part of the YMCA.
Marianne Ivin of SUEZ Communities Trust says: “We are delighted to be able to help the YMCA with the creation of the new pitch and we hope that it brings the community and the users of the facility together to enjoy a multitude of sports.”
Our Newtown Youth and Community Center is a fantastic addition to the local area and offers services across a range of ages, including youth clubs, craft sessions, quiz nights and music programmes. We are already seeing the pitch being used by local schools and groups who wouldn’t otherwise have access to local space.
