Mothering Sunday
How are you planning to show your appreciation for your Mum and all she’s done for you over the past year? Maybe you like to honour another special female in your life too; a step-mum, carer, grandmother or mother-in-law, with cards, flowers a treat or special lunch.
Did you know that Mothering Sunday originated from a break from the Easter fasting of Lent which is the period from Ash Wednesday until Good Friday when people do not eat sweet, rich foods or meat? Mothering Sunday was celebrated with a Simnel cake and church services focusing on Mary. Following the Second World War, Britain took on the name of USA’s “Mother’s Day” and they merged into a similar celebration of memorial, thanks and present giving.
In our YMCA Nurseries and Pre-schools, children have had special events for their mum’s this week & have been busy decorating cards for the special ladies in their lives who we are sure will be delighted with their little one’s handmade creations.
However you choose to celebrate, at the YMCA we wish you a happy Mother’s Day full of love and joy
