Doing a personal challenge for yourself is a fantastic idea and achievement once completed, but when you do it on behalf of someone else it is so much more special. Today we would like to introduce you to Ross Wilkes a member of our YMCA Newport Nursery Team, who set himself a truly difficult task of running 100 km in under 24 hours around the Isle of WIght. Setting up a crowdfunding page Ross’s hope was to raise money to help build an outdoor undercover shelter for the children of the nursery so that they can continue outdoor learning whatever the weather. To put it into perspective this it the route Ross ran:

And run he did – all 100 km of it! Starting in Ryde at 5am, Ross completed the challenge in an amazing time of 16 hours and 15 minutes – what a legend! He totally smashed it, getting home way before the welcoming committee were ready! To date he has raised £590 against a £250 target and we hope that he can break the £600 mark soon. We welcome anyone one to fundraise on our behalf either for the charity in general or for a specific item or project, and you can do anything from a local run to a sponsored silence, an abseil to a cycle whatever your personal challenge is we welcome your support here at the YMCA. We even have a group going to do the 3 Peaks 24 hour challenge in September. So make this the year you push yourself and support the YMCA.
Well Done Ross – we are so proud of what you have achieve and thank you for doing it on behalf of the YMCA!…So whats next???
