As a local community charity we aren’t always considered in line with the bigger more visible charities, the likes of Cancer Research, Naomi House or the British Heat Foundation. But that just means we have more work to do to share the stories we have of the valuable work that we do.
We’ve mentioned before how proud we are of our staff and the amazing work they do on a daily basis, but some times they go above and beyond, so today we wanted to share with you the story of 3 members of staff who are raising money for our very worthwhile causes.

Emily’s Story
It has always been an ambition of mine to run a marathon before I am 40. Well there is only a few years left so I am taking the plunge and have entered the ABP Southampton Marathon. I may not be quick, and it may not be pretty but I hope to cross the finish line on the 22nd April.
This is going to be a massive challenge for me, but not as big as some of the everyday challenges some young people face. With this in mind I am raising funds for the YMCA Fairthorne group Building Bridges bursary scheme.
This is a community funded programme designed to provide those who have overcome challenges in their lives from coping with bereavement to living in refuge the chance to access our valuable YMCA services. Just £31 can send a disadvantage child to enjoy a day in the outdoors at YMCA Fairthorne Manor, where children and young people can have the opportunity to thrive. I would love to be able with your help to raise £806 so 26 children can access our programmes, one for every mile.

Jim’s Story
The mornings are dark and often damp, but it’s that time of year when we consider what’s important in life. Helping other people makes me happy, so I’m strapping on my trainers and helping one of my local YMCA’s raise funds again. The plod gets slower every year, but the brain still thinks the body can do it.
YMCA Eastleigh is a great community space where children and families and come together for a range of activities as well as the pre-school. My funds will help them develop their garden space as well as buy new equipment for the children to use.

Gosia’a Story
I have decided to set myself a personal challenge to run 10K. I have not run for many months, so this will be a real challenge for me.
To really motivate myself I have decided to run for YMCA Eastleigh Pre-school, a cause that is very close to my heart. Many children at the Pre-school don’t have access to computers and other technology and are falling behind in their development.
By sponsoring me to run the Eastleigh 10K you will be helping raise funds to buy computers and tablets to help these children catch up with their friends.
