National Volunteers Week 1st-7th June
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” – Winston Churchill
As it’s National Volunteer Week we’re keen to celebrate this by thanking the volunteers who support the YMCA in making a difference in the local community. Whether that’s running the YMCA Weston library, helping at events and festivals or helping with stream cleans at Fairthorne Manor we’re grateful for all help given
Our first celebration of the week was awarded from Southampton City Council in appreciation for the library services for the local community in Weston. Its always lovely to get recognition for the work that the volunteers offer.
What a week of volunteering we had last week at Fairthorne Manor. The great team from Ageas helped us with a stream clean and helped in the nursery garden to rebuild the Firepit, build a music wall, bug hotel and some new planters as well, followed by toasted marshmallows and a chance to experience the aqua slide. And in the evening, the Scouts from 22nd Southampton Scout Group helped us with our Tyre Pyramid, it’s nearly ready to open!
Here’s what two of our international volunteers had to say about their experience of volunteering at Family Festival in May:
If you’re interested in volunteering to gain new skills, confidence or simply to meet new people and have fun, we can offer a variety of opportunities including “Smile Makers” at the forthcoming Challenge of Challenges!
There is currently an assortment of volunteering opportunities available across the YMCA including Library Assistant, Events Assistant and Daycamps Volunteer.
We would love for you to get in touch. Email us at [email protected].
