On the 5th April 2018 the YMCA Fairthorne Group was successful in achieving Registered Provider status for the housing aspect of the organisation. This part of the organisation is known as YMCA Fairthorne Housing.
Housing associations, or registered providers, offer similar types of housing as local councils; often to people on a low income or who need extra support. YMCA Fairthorne Housing acts as a not-for-profit registered provider.
While still under the YMCA Fairthorne Group umbrella, the move to become a registered provider allows YMCA Fairthorne Housing the flexibility to develop future housing to meet the needs of communities, including flexibility over tenancies and types of accommodation which could take the form of supported accommodation or affordable, privately rented accommodation.
To coincide with becoming a registered provider, YMCA Fairthorne Housing have taken ownership of both George Williams House in Southampton; and the housing provision in Basingstoke, both being transferred from YMCA England and Wales.
