Two YMCA staff have been recognised for more fantastic work in their local community.
Sharlien Kennedy and Billie Murphy from YMCA Newtown Youth & Community Centre in Southampton were commended for their contributions by Lady Louisa Portal, the High Sheriff of Hampshire, at an awards ceremony in the Great Hall at Winchester. Since the centre was taken on by the YMCA in May 2015, the pair, along with a team of volunteers from across the community have transformed a tired building into a thriving community space.
Services at the centre now include a dance studio, indoor and outdoor sports areas, popular youth club and a new monthly music club run in conjunction with famed DJ and Bestival creator Rob Da Bank. Find out more on the YMCA Newtown Community page.
