Job Purpose:
The SEND is a key member of our Preschool team, with a prime focus on supporting our children across the preschool with any form of additional need or vulnerability.
The job holder will be expected to observe children and alongside keypersons, identify children in need of additional support, develop individual education plans, make any necessary onwards referrals and support and coach the team to embed high standards of care to meet identified needs.
As part of the team, the job holder will also contribute towards the preschool improvement plan, coach and role model outstanding practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be active and self reflective to improve outcomes for children, especially those with any form of additional needs or vulnerability.
- To use observation and assessment data to support staff in identifying children with additional needs, and then plan appropriately to meet their needs.
- To develop and oversee focused activities, to support children with additional needs and vulnerabilities meet their next steps.
- To contribute to the SEND improvement plan alongside the manager.
- Engage, coach and role model good practice to staff to embed changes and improve both universal and SEND provision, centered on an understanding of child development.
- Ensure clear partnership with parents/carers to share information and work together to improve both the home and nursery learning environment.
- With the Manager, develop partnerships with health visitors, schools, local inclusion officers, social services, other agencies and the wider community.
- Measure and review the impact of planned interventions.
- Support the planning scrutiny of our whole preschool provision, and deputise as required for the preschool manager.
- To follow YMCA Fairthorne Group’s Safeguarding, Child Protection and Safer Working practice policies at all times, taking any concerns regarding health or wellbeing to your line manager or senior management.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Experience and understanding of child development, behaviour management, SENCO and identified groups of children. Willing to undertake further training in this regard
- Ideally be a qualified childcare practitioner to Level 3 and committed to working towards Level 5
- Experience of implementing improvement in an Early Years setting
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an Early Years setting
- First aid
- A qualification, knowledge and understanding of statutory safeguarding. Be willing to become a Designated Safeguarding Lead (Level 3 or above)
- Good knowledge of matters relating to health and safety.
