Job Purpose

YMCA Southampton is a purpose-built supported housing facility in the centre of Southampton accommodating 52 people aged 16-22, supporting them to live independently. As a key member of the housing team this post will ensure that the premises and environment remains accessible and safe during office hours.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • At all times work within the YMCA Way, in particular demonstrating our values.
  • Provide a point of contact at reception including answering telephone.
  • Convey messages to support and other staff as needed, including escalating any support requirements or serious or urgent matters immediately.
  • Ensure maintenance and cleaning teams are notified of maintenance and cleaning matters.
  • Note and report any repairs identified during the shift.
  • Apply contractor’s policy including permits to work on premises.
  • Ensure the premises are kept secure and report any defects to maintenance staff.
  • Monitor and review CCTV coverage, reporting incidents of importance and filling reports and data using YMCA’s systems.
  • Exchange premises security information with night concierge team using online system to ensure smooth handover between shifts.
  • Ensure risk management plans and safeguarding processes are followed.
  • Keep accurate records relating to any incidents that may occur, ensuring that this information is passed immediately to the management and support team, while ensuring that professional confidentiality and boundaries are maintained.
  • Ensuring that the fire safety of the premises is not compromised, that all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction.
  • Provide fire warden support for the building (training will be given) including management of evacuations and operating fire alarm system controls.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures at all times.
  • Carry out basic housekeeping and cleaning duties in reception area.

Person Specification & Key Competencies

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role or industry.
  • A commitment to relating positively to residents, visitors, staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent communication skills and good IT skills.
  • Ability to react positively and effectively when faced with unwanted or high-risk behaviours.
  • An understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures.
  • An understanding of equality and diversity matters.
