YMCA Eastleigh opened in 2021 as a purpose-built YMCA community branch, in North Stoneham Park, Eastleigh, supporting a new community of 1100 new homes. Our 2-storey nursery and community centre provides childcare for 95 children, a welcoming café for the whole community, as well as a community hall, meeting rooms, youth space and a health room for delivery of community programmes.
Job Purpose
This role will provide a warm welcome to all people accessing YMCA Eastleigh, whether serving refreshments in our café, delivering children’s activities, parties or events. The postholder will prepare food and drinks for customers, tidy tables and provide dishwasher support, as well help deliver our activities programme to children, young people or adults, alongside supporting a wide array of different community events. The assistant will also help with event and activity bookings and ensure the highest standards of customer service.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a welcoming and friendly approach to everyone coming into YMCA Eastleigh.
- Prepare food and drinks for customers, ensuring high standards of hygiene and presentation.
- Ensure the reception / cafe space looks welcoming, with tables cleared away, crockery cleaned and furniture properly laid out.
- Deploy accuracy in using the till system and handling payments.
- Support YMCA volunteers, enabling them to meet customer needs as well as develop their own potential.
- Deliver a wide variety of activities and parties to different age and ability groups, including physical activities and creative activities.
- Assist in the successful delivery of community events, from quiz nights to barn dances, beach parties to bingo. Ensuring that customer service and a fantastic customer experience are paramount.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience of hospitality roles and preparation of food and drink desirable.
- Experience of providing activities to children, young people and families desirable.
- Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding best practice, ideally with recent certificated training desirable.
- Experience in performing tasks under pressure in a busy customer facing role.
- Food Hygiene certificate or willingness to train.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding good practice.
