Did you know that in the 2024 MP cohort, 20 MP’s are under 30…out of 680?
As a leading youth charity, we are committed to ensuring young people have a voice. That’s why YMCA England and Wales’ Youth Ambassador Programme was created. Our Youth Ambassadors actively advocate for young people, who are underrepresented in the decisions being made about their futures. With less than 3% of MP’s under the age of 30, it highlights the need for a programme that puts young people at the forefront, which is exactly what this does. Each year, YMCA England & Wales welcomes a new group of young people aged 18-30 to join the existing cohort of Ambassadors, in the hope that young people will always have an advocate.
YMCA Fairthorne Group’s Youth Ambassador
This year, Rosie joined the Youth Ambassador Programme to represent YMCA Fairthorne Group. Over the past nine months, she’s worked as a Marketing Coordinator and seen firsthand the positive impact YMCA makes. Rosie is excited to grow personally and professionally, build her confidence, and undoubtedly better understand the challenges young people face – especially around mental health.
Rosie shared with us about her induction in London.
At the start of the month, I headed to London for the Youth Ambassador induction! I spent time learning how I will support in campaigns and influence change. Most importantly, how I can be an advocate for youth.
I had the opportunity to meet and network with people from all areas of the organisation during the induction. Furthermore, I look forward to learning new skills, through the tri-monthly training sessions. I am equally as excited to challenge myself, by attending the National Conference and beyond.
Bringing together young people from YMCAs across England and Wales, Youth Ambassadors will continue to play a vital role. They will be representing the views, needs, and aspirations of young people. Youth Ambassadors shape YMCA’s policy priorities, and occasionally attend national and international events. They serve as powerful spokespeople for youth across the organisation.
