The DP World Southampton 2 year partnership with YMCA Fairthorne Group has been built on a shared vision of opportunity and community impact. In less than six months, this collaboration has already brought powerful results for young people across Hampshire.
FIT for Work: Building Confidence and Employability
Through an initial £10,000 donation, DP World has supported the launch of the FIT for Work, Train the Trainer program. This project equips young adults in YMCA housing with the tools to build confidence and move towards sustainable employment.
The funding has been used to bring in a consultant to train eight Youth Engagement Coordinators. By receiving this training, coordinators are now better prepared to deliver one to one sessions with young people. The funding will also cover travel costs and suitable work attire for participants, enabling them to feel confident and prepared. This type of investment addresses not only practical barriers but also mental challenges that can hinder young people’s progress. A Partnership that Extends Beyond Funding
The DP World Southampton partnership with YMCA Fairthorne Group has gone further than financial donations. DP World employees have attended training sessions, Corporate Hospitality Day, Volunteering and even taken part in community activities.
At a recent quiz night in June, £9,000 was raised in a single evening. Funds like these ensure that more young adults can access life changing opportunities.
Volunteering and Hands-On Support
The partnership has also thrived because of employee volunteering. DP World staff members helped set up tents at the annual Young Carers Festival at Fairthorne Manor. This event, run with The Children’s Society, is the largest festival for young carers in the world. It gives young people who carry heavy responsibilities at home a chance to relax, connect and be heard.
Volunteers also built benches at George Williams House, where 52 young people are offered safe housing and support in the heart of Southampton. Another team painted fences at our Fairthorne Manor Nursery, brightening the environment for children and families.
Even essential needs have been met. With a donation of £300 in toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste and sanitary products, DP World has helped ensure dignity for young people in our housing services.
Looking Ahead
The DP World Southampton partnership with YMCA Fairthorne Group is less than six months old, yet its achievements are already significant. With sustained commitment, more young people will be supported as they move from surviving to thriving.
As this collaboration continues, the ripple effect across housing, employability and youth confidence will only grow.
