Adventures Away From Home

Fully Funded Opportunity for young people

We are pleased to confirm we have received £43,000 of funding for the Adventures Away From Home funding.

Applications to benefit from the Adventures Away from Home fund for 2025/26 have now closed.

This funding aims to increase access to outdoor learning for young people who face barriers. As an established charity, and not for profit outdoor learning provider, we were eligible to apply for this funding to deliver one day experiences, or residential stays to those who were eligible and expressed interest in recieving the funded trip.

FAQ

What Happens First?

Please Note: This Application is now closed.

This funding, if awarded, would allow us to offer fully funded outdoor learning experiences - including one-day visits and residential stays - to young people who would not normally have access to these opportunities.
Young people must be aged 11–18 and meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • From minoritised ethnic backgrounds
  • Living in the secure estate
  • Low academic attainment
  • English as an additional language
  • Experiencing financial hardship (e.g. free school meals)
  • Physical disabilities
  • Experience of care
  • Caring responsibilities (young carers)
  • LGBTQI+
  • With SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
  • Refugee or asylum seeker
  • Living in poverty
  • In need of additional support to participate
In order to submit a strong application for this funding, we need to identify how many young people may be eligible, and what kind of experiences would benefit them the most. We don't need full details at this stage, just an indication of numbers and interest so we can build a compelling case for funding.
  • Each child may only attend once using this funding.
  • Transport costs are not included - groups are expected to arrange and fund this themselves. Participants will also be asked to complete short surveys before, after, and 6 months following the experience.
  • This funding may only cover children in these groups, and not make up part of a wider group.

What Happens Now?

We are pleased to confirm we have received over 40,000 to spend with eligible groups.

Due to the nature of the funding, we can only offer this funding to groups who are not already receiving this funding from another organisation. Each group should only benefit once from this funding.
This funding needs to be used by March 2026.
Thank you to everyone who shared their expressions of interest. Now that we have been successfully granted this funding, we are in the process of deciding who to award the funding to. If we contact you, we need a response as soon as possible, otherwise, you risk loosing the opportunity to another group. If you cannot commit, we will reallocate the funding to another eligible group.
Thanks to the funding, we may approach you offering one of the following:
  • A day trip -  3 activities and lunch
  • 1 nigh residential - 4 activities, all meals, and accommodation
  • 2 night residential - 6 activities, all meals, and accommodation
There is the expectation that you will complete the evaluation forms sent to you following the event. This will help determine the success of the funding.
Due to availability, we may only have dates available during term time. If this is the case, we have created a template letter for you to share with the young peoples Head teacher. This should support in seeking permission for the child to miss school if that is required during the duration of your visit to Fairthorne Manor. The letter can be downloaded here. Please fill in the relevent information at the bottom, and share with the childs school.
