Volunteers’ Week is here and we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible people who give their time to support YMCA Fairthorne Group.

From community spaces and youth services to libraries, events and international programmes, volunteers help make what we do possible.

Stay with us this week as we share the stories behind the numbers. First up – Arthur.

Arthur’s volunteering at YMCA Weston Library

Arthur joined the library a couple of months ago as a stop gap before attending University in September where he plans to study Film Studies.

He had taken part in work experience in a library during Secondary school and had really enjoyed the experience.  He was engaged in a Council run scheme to support getting employment and the service had recommended Volunteering as well as searching for a job and this opportunity came up.

Arthur enjoys spending time in the library as it adds structure to his daily life, and it allows him to get to know people he wouldn’t normally meet.

It’s interesting to talk to new people and share different perspectives and approaches to life.
