August 12th is International Youth Day, a day which raises awareness of youth issues, and celebrates the potential of the young people in our communities.
At YMCA Fairthorne Group, young people are at the heart of what we do.
What we do
Across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we support over 29,000 children, young people, and families every year. Our work spans several vital areas:
- Outdoor adventure and activities – At our flagship site, Fairthorne Manor, young people take part in Daycamps, school residentials and day trips, and outdoor adventure activities across our 95-acre activity centre.
- Early years education – Through our nurseries across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we give children from four months old the best possible start in life.
- Youth housing and support – In Basingstoke, Southampton, and the Isle of Wight, we provide supported housing for young people, including support for young mothers, helping vulnerable young people build independence and stability.
- Community outreach – From community centres, youth clubs, and libraries, we work at a local level to tackle issues affecting different areas.
- The Young Carers Festival – Our annual festival gives young carers a weekend of connection, adventure, and joy – recognising the extraordinary responsibilities so many young people carry at home.
Why it matters to us
We hear it in the stories young people share with us – that’s what keeps us doing this work.
