YMCA Hounsome Fields

6 May 2026

There’s a real sense of excitement building, and for good reason.

We’re getting ready to open a brand-new nursery at Hounsome Fields in Basingstoke. More than just a new setting, this is an opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning – supporting children, working alongside families, and helping shape a new and growing community.

This opportunity has come through our partnership with Hounsome Fields Primary School, located within a new housing development. As the community grows, so does the need for high-quality early years provision, and this allows us to be there from the start, building something meaningful from day one.

For families, it means access to a trusted, high-quality nursery right on their doorstep. Being based within the school environment also supports continuity for children as they grow, helping them feel settled, confident, and ready for the next stage of their journey.

The setting itself has been purposefully designed with children in mind. With brand-new indoor and outdoor spaces, the environment will encourage curiosity, exploration, and learning through play. The focus is on creating a calm, inspiring space where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.

Beyond the space, the ambition is clear. This is about giving children the strongest possible start – supporting early development, building school readiness, and working in partnership with families to create something that lasts.

Getting to this point has been a genuinely collaborative process with our school partners. There’s been a strong sense of shared vision throughout, and now, as we approach opening, that vision is starting to become a reality.

And perhaps the most exciting part?

Seeing the space come to life – filled with children, energy, and opportunity.

Opportunities to Be Part of Something New

As we bring Hounsome Fields to life, this isn’t just about a new setting, it’s about new opportunities too.

We’ll be opening the door for internal colleagues who are interested in being part of the journey, including the option to explore internal transfers. For those who are passionate about Early Years and excited by the idea of shaping a setting from the ground up, this is a unique opportunity to get involved from day one.

While the final structure is still being confirmed, the new nursery will include roles such as a Nursery Manager, Lead Practitioners, and Early Years Practitioners.

More detail will be shared as plans are finalized, but for now, if this is something that sparks your interest, it’s a great time to start thinking about what your next step could look like.

If you’d like to express your interest or find out more, you can share your CV or questions with Claire Anscombe and view all available vacancies for Hounsome Fields here.

At its core, this is what we do as YMCA Fairthorne Group. We create spaces where children can thrive, where families feel supported, and where communities grow stronger together.

Hounsome Fields is the next step in that journey, and we’re just getting started.
