YMCA Fairthorne Group Expands Fairthorne Manor Nursery and Creates New Early Years Careers

We are expanding our Fairthorne Manor Nursery by 25%, increasing capacity to 160 childcare spaces, while also creating new career and employment opportunities within the Early Years sector for people in the local community.

The expansion will grow our nursery from 128 places for children aged 4 months to 5 years, responding to increasing demand from families across the area. At the same time, the development represents a significant investment in the Early Years workforce, with new roles offering clear training and progression pathways.

Investing in Children and Careers
As part of the expansion, at YMCA Fairthorne Group we are actively recruiting for a range of Early Years roles, offering fulfilling careers with purpose, professional development, and long-term progression. These opportunities are ideal for individuals passionate about helping young children learn, develop, and get the best possible start in life. The expanded nursery will feature enhanced facilities and thoughtfully designed spaces, benefiting both children and staff when doors open this spring.

Creating Local Opportunities
A key milestone in the recruitment journey will be an Open Day for childcare students from Fareham College on Thursday 26th February, supporting young people into meaningful employment and strengthening local career pathways. The expansion will directly contribute to job creation and skills development within the
community.

Vikki Kennesion, Director of Early Years, said:
“This expansion is about more than increasing childcare spaces. It’s about investing in people, creating strong career pathways, and continuing to support families with high-quality childcare.”

The Fairthorne Manor Nursery expansion marks an important step forward for our charitable organisation, growing both early years provision and the workforce, while continuing to support families across Botley, Southampton, and the wider area.
