Job Purpose:
The Chef will work as part of a team undertaking all aspects of catering for children and adults, including preparing lunches for nursery children, and breakfast, lunch and evening meals for residential groups, of children and adults, also preparing hot and cold sandwiches and salads for onsite and off-site cafes.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supported by the Exec chef, lead in the cooking and presentation of high quality, tasty and nutritious meals for babies, children and adults, following existing systems and recipes and utilising fresh ingredients wherever possible.
- Supervise the set-up and clear-down of the kitchen and dining area, with support from catering and housekeeping staff.
- Ensure YMCA policies and procedures are followed at all times including, but not limited to, Safer Food Better Business (HACCP), COSHH, health & safety, and safeguarding.
- Provide supervision and support to seasonal staff and staff in training.
- Place food orders where necessary, following systems and budget.
- Ensure all allergens are identified and managed, enabling YMCA to meet all dietary needs safely.
- Communicate between shifts to ensure customers receive the best possible service.
- Liaise with customers on any catering related matter and ensure any non-catering matters are followed up.
Person Specification & Key Competencies
Qualifications and Experience:
- NVQ Level 2 catering / hospitality or relevant experience and willingness to train.
- A passion for producing high quality food and attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety.
- Knowledge of children and babies’ nutritional needs.
- Food hygiene qualifications including allergen or willingness to train.
Personal Attributes:
- Able to work with minimal supervision, and part as a team
- Ability to communicate effectively as part of a team.
- Remains focussed in a busy environment.
- A genuine enthusiasm for the work of YMCA, including willingness to step in and help others in the Fairthorne Manor team.
- Friendly and approachable manner.
