Thanks to the generous support of the Morrisons Foundation, YMCA Fairthorne Group’s emergency overnight accommodation in Southampton has been improved for vulnerable young people. A grant of £9,977 was awarded to the charity, allowing the installation of an en-suite bathroom within the emergency bed facility.
Why the YMCA Fairthorne Group Emergency Overnight Accommodation Matters
The emergency overnight room at YMCA Fairthorne Group is used to support young people in urgent need of safe housing. Without this facility, many would face the risk of sleeping on the streets. By adding private bathroom facilities, dignity and security are now provided to those at their most vulnerable moments.
Impact of the Morrisons Foundation Grant
The funding has made a lasting difference. Karen Grove, Head of Youth Support and Programmes at YMCA Fairthorne Group, explained that the new facilities have already had a positive effect.
“The funding we received for the emergency overnight room has greatly benefited our members. Those who have used the space said that having their own personal area has positively influenced their mental health.”
Through this upgrade, YMCA Fairthorne Group’s emergency overnight accommodation has been transformed into a safer and more supportive environment.
Who Benefits from YMCA Fairthorne Group Emergency Overnight Accommodation?
The emergency overnight room is available for single homeless young people aged 16–25 with a wide range of support needs; including alcohol, drug, or mental health issues. Priority is given to those with a local connection or who are care leavers.
- Gender: Mixed
- Minimum age accepted: 16
By providing private facilities, young people no longer need to rely on communal areas at a time when they feel most vulnerable. Instead, they are given privacy, dignity and a stronger sense of safety.
Building a Positive Future
YMCA Fairthorne Group emergency overnight accommodation demonstrates how targeted funding can make a big impact. With the right support, vulnerable young people can take their first steps toward stability, confidence and independence.
The Morrisons Foundation’s grant is more than just a financial contribution; it is a lifeline that helps protect and empower young people during their most difficult times.
