In August, Rosie, a Youth Ambassador representing YMCA Fairthorne Group as part of the YMCA England & Wales Youth Ambassador Programme attended a specialist training day focused on research for campaigning.
The session was led by Anna, research manager for YMCA England and Wales, and aimed to equip Youth Ambassadors with the skills and knowledge needed to gather reliable information, conduct effective research, and understand the ethical responsibilities involved in working with data and personal experiences.
The training saw Youth Ambassadors from across the country meet up at YMCA Milton Keynes. They enjoyed a tour of the fantastic site and facilities, feeling inspired about what to bring back to their own YMCA’s.
What Was Covered?
Throughout the training, she explored different ways of gathering information, the various types of research that can be used to support campaigns, and the importance of carrying out research in an ethical and responsible way.
The session also highlighted how quality research can strengthen campaigns and ensure that the voices of young people are supported with accurate evidence. This is particularly important when contributing to discussions that may influence decision-makers at both local and national levels, including parliamentary conversations.
