Celebrating a Wonderful Week of Reading at YMCA Fairthorne Manor Nursery

At YMCA Fairthorne Manor Nursery, we are passionate about nurturing a lifelong love of stories, imagination and learning. That’s why we were thrilled to host our recent Ready Steady Listen sponsored reading week, which took place during the week beginning 24th November – and what a fantastic success it was!

Inspiring a Love of Books Through Shared Reading

The event encouraged children to enjoy daily story time with parents, carers, siblings, or grandparents, helping to build positive reading habits and strong family connections. Sharing books together is proven to support children’s language development, listening skills, and concentration – all essential foundations for early learning.

Throughout the week, our nursery was buzzing with excitement as children proudly shared their favourite stories from home and talked about the special moments they had spent listening to books with loved ones.

A Special Partnership with Usborne

We were pleased to work alongside our local Usborne partner, Briony Green, who helped support our Ready Steady Listen event. Families raised sponsorship funds that will allow each child to choose their very own Usborne book as a keepsake to enjoy at home.

In addition, Usborne will donate up to 60% of the total money raised in free books for our nursery. This will enable us to enhance our reading corners with a wonderful selection of new titles for all children to explore as part of our daily story sessions.
