This year we have joined with YMCA England and Wales in acknowledging the valuable contributions of over 700 trustees who give their time, skills and experience to help our YMCA charity thrive. Trustees’ Week ( 3rd to 7th November 2025), is a national event that celebrates the impact and influence of trustees in the leadership and governance of charities across the UK.
YMCA Fairthorne Group’s Trustees bring a vast and diverse range of experience, from business management to finance, and youth work to fundraising. They challenge, support and guide us in our mission to enable children, young people and families to belong, grow and thrive. Their generosity of giving up their time helps shape the future of our charity and strengthens the communities we serve.
I was honoured when I was first approached about the potential of supporting YMCA Fairthorne from a trustee perspective. I was attracted to the hard work everyone in the charity puts in every day to enable better and more fulfilling lives for youngsters across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. If I can make a small contribution to this fabulous work done by all our people in inspiring greater futures for so many, then it is totally worthwhile. The talent across YMCA Fairthorne is incredibly impressive and I relish being able to mentor and support our staff where I can”. Ian Martin, YMCA Fairthorne Group Trustee.
This year Trustees’ Week focuses on good governance and leadership for the future in the voluntary sector.
Eastside People run the Festival of Trusteeship, an online week-long series of panels and practical workshops supported by the Institute of Leadership, much of which is free for potential trustees to attend.
Topics include:
- Board dynamics, youth voice, and equality and inclusion
- Leadership and legal responsibilities
- Using the Charity Governance Code and Trusted Standard to strengthen boards
- Keeping track of governance changes happening across the sector
