World Youth Skills Day is a reminder of the importance of learning, development and opportunity. At YMCA Fairthorne Group, we see every day how the right support can help young people overcome challenges and unlock their potential.
Empowering Young People Through Skills and Support
Across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, YMCA Fairthorne Group is proud to support young people facing a range of challenges, from homelessness and housing struggles to mental and physical health difficulties, social isolation, and barriers to employment.
We provide housing and support for young adults and young mothers who are at risk of homelessness. Across Southampton, Basingstoke and the Isle of Wight, we help young people build stability, confidence and independence.
Through workshops, training opportunities and one-to-one support, we equip young people with the skills, knowledge and resilience they need to belong, contribute, and thrive.
Building Skills for Independent Living
Through life skills workshops, budgeting sessions, batch cooking activities and future planning workshops, we help young people develop the practical knowledge needed to live independently. Residents also receive support with job searching, CV writing, applications and interview preparation, equipping them with the skills to take their next steps towards employment and financial stability.
Supporting Wellbeing and Personal Growth
We also provide opportunities for young people to strengthen their wellbeing, understand positive relationships and access specialist support. Mental health sessions, check-ins, community activities and partnerships with specialist organisations help residents overcome barriers, improve their health and wellbeing, and work towards their goals.
Always Expanding
We are dedicated to continuously improving our sessions and listening to what our residents want. Currently, we are putting together a driving theory test workshop. Being able to drive offers endless job and personal opportunities for young people.
Whether it’s building confidence, gaining qualifications, developing employability skills or discovering new passions, every young person deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Together, we’re helping young people build brighter futures.
